hot hot hot

It got up into the nineties today, and probably not much less than that in the store where I work... Makes for a fun shift in a shirt and tie. Then it's nice coming home to a un-air conditioned house. It's not very condusive to sleeping when the outdoor temperature is 80+ degrees after midnight. Luckily, every room here has a ceiling fan, and I have my own little fan to add to that, which makes it tolerable.

In other news, my girlfriend made it to DC today, but that's about all I know. She didn't have much time to talk when I called, but it sounds like she's already busy! I'm jealous. Iowa City is not a bad town at all, I just wouldn't mind getting out. It looks like I won't be going anywhere until I go out to Washington over the 4th. That's ok with me, it saves me money.

Also, the Royals lost today after putting up a fight with the Yankees. They gave up 6 early runs, but then the bullpen pitched 5 perfect innings while the offense tried to gid out of their early hole. It ended up a 6-5 loss, but it could've been much, much worse. Now, on to the other coast, and a series against the Oakland Athletics. I'm feeling it's time for the boys in blue to get their first road series victory.

Hope everyone out there has good Memorial Day plans. I get to work all day. yay

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone

Bill Withers' song (of the same title as this post) came on at work today, and it seemed pretty appropriate. My girlfriend left for DC today, she'll be there for a couple of months doing an internship. It'll be the longest we'll be apart, by a week or two, but pretty much our whole relationship has been long-distance, so this'll just be another few weeks for us. I'll be (hopefully) heading out there to visit over the 4th of July, which I imagine the do up pretty well out there. And, I figure there are about 4 ballparks that aren't too far, a nice little train or bus trip for a few, so maybe I'll be able to catch at least one game, probably in Washington.

I'm taking things alright today, I stayed busy enough at work to kind of keep my mind off of it, we'll just see how the next few days go. After that, it'll be going a lot smoother. I already miss the hell out of her, but I know I'll manage. We've been through this before.

In other news, my dad has talked me into doing the Bix 7 road race this year. For those of you unfamiliar, that's a 7 mile run through the streets of Davenport, IA, starting off with about a mile long climb up Brady Street hill. And, from what I hear, it ends with a bunch of free food and free beer. All I need to worry about is finishing. I'll occasionally post my training updates, assuming I actually train. I'm in no shape to make it 7 miles, even if we're only walking it.

A little thing called blog...

So I just thought I'd give this blog thing a go, see how it works. No one will probably see it, and that's fine with me. I just wanted something to try out, get some thoughts down, whatever. And we'll see how often I actually update it.

This is going to be it for now. Just a start, maybe I'll do some more tonight, maybe not.

oh, and go Royals, go rainclouds over NYC.
